SILICONSOFTWARE GmbH was founded in 1997 as a spin off of the University of Mannheim with the intention to establish high speed image processing accelerators based on the new technological development of reprogrammable hardware on the international markets and to make this new future market accessible to a broad and interested industrial market. The companions and developers have invest their decades of experience on this technological field in the realisation of projects in research and industry.

The enterprise name is also the idea of business: a revolutionarily new way of synergy between hardware and software. The modern technology of the reprogrammable processors (FPGA = field programmable gate array) enables the combination of a high processing speed of electronic components (hardware) and the flexible customization and interchangeability of programmings (software).

Through this significant temporal and financial advantages arise for the customer and for the producer. Changes in the hardware can be converted instead of months within hours. Individual customizations of the hardware solutions can be implemented also after installation. The know-how of also finished projects remains unchanged by the recyclability of the code for the future. This concept guarantees a short time-to-market at the uncompromising highest processing speed.

Use of the FPGA chips for individual hardware solutions is economically competitive already as of small till middle quantities. The hardware libraries built up modularly lower the development costs and time at the same time. And finally this technology offers a new way of future guarantee: even operational devices and machines can be updated by mouse clicks, i.e. implementation of the latest data formats or standards.

As developer and service provider for custom-designed industrial solutions the combination of hardware, software and operational environment is the new innovative concept of SILICONSOFTWARE. With composite hard and software solutions in series, there is no need for own developments of the customer.

As customer you can nevertheless decide whether to purchase prefabricated solutions, wether to program hardware by yourselves and to adapt it to your problem or whether SILICONSOFTWARE shall generate an individual customer solution for you. Customer orientation is therefore not only a headword for us.

The rapid development in the semiconductor industry guarantees an exponential performance increase of the FPGA processors also in future which considerably is above that one of the standard processors of today's computers. Therefore the computing capacity of FPGAs is the ideal technology for high-level application in machine vision..

    microEnable IV A-series


    microEnable IV A-series is characterized by its focus on image acquisition and pre-processing functionality. It benefits from the experience of past microEnable generations by its high operational stability and functional range. The CameraLink spectrum ranges from single channel acquisition board to a frame grabber with support of a 10 taps FULL configuration camera with transfer rate of up to 760 MB/s. With GigabitEthernet it supports an image acquisition of GigE Vision compliant cameras by 4 ports. An automatic tap sorting and image reconstruction from data frames guarantees a low latency and minimal load of the host-CPU.

    The product line has sufficient resources for a safe image acquisition without loss of images even at very high frame rates or amount of image data by its huge onboard RAM memory. An easy and intuitively to use configuration software and a comprehensive SDK allows a detailed adaptation to the system requirements and a quick integration in the application.

    microEnable IV V-series

    microEnable IV V-series extends the comprehensive functional range of the A-series for additional image processing and extension interfaces. SmartApplets and VisualApplets extend the scope of functions tremendously. Both applets families use the vision processor on the V-series boards extensively. SmartApplets offers high quality image processing for applications, which can be used immediately only by configuration. VisualApplets extends the functional scope individually and provides an access on more than 200 operators from Machine Vision libraries for image and signal processing by its VisualApplets software environment. It enables a programming of customized image processing on the FPGA vision processor, processed in real-time without any load of the host CPU.

    The modular hardware system of microEnable IV V-series allows a mounting of add-on modules. The CLIO interface is used for a data distribution and mirrors the CameraLink input to additional CameraLink outputs. The PixelPlant interface extends the board for additional hardware resources. The resources are used for algorithmic complex onboard image processing and are automatically embedded in the design resource administration.

    The trigger interface enables the integration of peripheries. Signals from devices like encoders or photoelectric barriers or signals to devices like lightning can be combined with camera or acquisition events.
